Margarete Steiff GmbH is one of the world’s best-known soft toy manufacturers and has been a byword for top quality, tested safety, perfect design and first-class materials for over 135 years.
Back in 1880, when Margarete Steiff invented the “Elefäntle” and saw how the little felt elephant, which had originally been conceived as a pin cushion, soon established itself as a favourite toy, it became clear to her how important high-quality and lovingly designed toys are for children.
Her belief that “Only the best is good enough for children” is our company philosophy and shapes both our work and every toy that leaves our production.
All genuine Steiff Bears will have a button in the ear.

Please email ( lck@mweb.co.za) for prices. Due to fluctuations in exchange, I do not show the prices on the website.
I am often asked why the prices of the products are so high. All shipments are brought into South Africa by a shipping company. This adds to the cost. Of course anyone can buy online, ( some local online shops supply soft Steiff toys – check the price first- one online store is selling the same product as the shop at treble the price) If you lucky the item will will arrive in a reasonable time and in good order. If not, it can be delayed by customs- duties, clearance fees etc will have to be paid, and often items go missing.
UPDATE 2021
With all imported bears I am showing the price one would pay in the currency of they country they are imported from, in the description.
- I would like customers to support the shop, however many will visit the shop, pick up/ feel/ the bear, then go and buy online. We are very aware of who does this. Or we have customers who advise they can get the bear at a better price buying directly from overseas supplier.
- By showing the RRP price-you are able to compare the shop price to the price you would pay if you import directly. Many people however, do no take into account the high shipping costs to South Africa, plus all goods imported have to pay 15% VAT plus clearing fees. Sending good via the local post office is very cost effective and if you lucky you will get your parcel however many overseas companies will only ship via courier. ALSO NOTE RATE OF EXCHANGE differs depending on what is happening in the world.
- You are able to buy online from my shop, if you are unable to visit.
